“ My wife and I recently bought a Dodge Grand Caravan from your company. I want to tell you a little bit about the process we went through and how nice it was, and different, at your dealership compared to some of the places we visited. Our odyssey started when we took our Kia Sedona in for some service work to the Kia Dealership in Puyallup. One of the doors was not locking properly and we found out that our extended service plan had expired three thousand miles before we had the problem. Then we were informed that since our vehicle was very nearly at 100 K we would be looking at a timing belt as well. We deiced to look at used cars/vans. We had a nice one picked out at the Kia place and we really wanted the Stow and Go seats. This used vehicle came with only one key and we did not feel it was fair to have to pay an additional $250.00 for a key. We spent a day and a half between the Kia dealer and the Volkswagen dealer across the river and we had two used vans picked that we would have been happy with. We were ready to sign on this Dodge vehicle at Kia but they would not budge on the key or on a full tank of gas. We ended up leaving the property over these issues and got on-line and ran a search of all the used vans in a fifty mile radius. We ended up driving to seven or eight dealers to look at vans, over the course of the next three days. At the Olympia Auto Mall we checked out four dealers in the same block. That’s when one of them suggested a new van might be able to absorb the negative equity we had in the Kia better than a used one. We looked at the Chryslers Town and Country. Long story short is that my wife and I are conservative in that we will not make a major purchase like a car without going home and thinking about it at least for twenty four hours. Some of these sales people really get desperate if you walk out of their building without buying a car. We just won’t do that. Ever. They come up with all kinds of reasons (like we can’t finish the appraisal on you Kia yet so why don’t you test drive this new van while you wait.) I feel sorry for a guy trying to make a buck but I have my own budget and my own set of circumstances to consider. We were actually on the way back to the Kia of Puyallup when we saw the sign for your Dodge Dealership. One of your used vans had come up on our list but it was three years old so we never went to your lot. But by this time we were somewhat considering purchasing a new one; but we were actually going to make another counter offer on the used Van at Kia and give up the full tank if they would go with a second key. When we cruised your lot one of your sales people invited us to park and take a look at what you had parked on the lot. We liked her right away. My wife and I had commented that in five days of shopping for cars we had not seen any women car sales people. We parked and went in and started talking to Landy Jolley. Another thing about her is that when she shook our hand she looked us in the eye. That gal had a better handshake than all but one of the guys we had worked with all week! When someone shakes my hand like a wet dishrag it makes me want to wash my hand. We looked at several cars and she was very knowledgeable about all the features. I had asked two of the men dealers at other places something about siping tires and neither one knew what it was. She did. My wife and I have a philosophy that if the numbers don’t work out there is no reason to drive the car. We want to sit and see what kind of options we have with the money end before we even turn the key on. We know a new car will smell nice, ride nice, and impress us; but if we can’t’ afford it there is no point in even getting in. Many of the dealers had an issue with this and almost wanted to force us into a test drive before we talked the numbers. Landy commented that this was not typical but that she was willing to sit with us and set out a plan. We really liked that she was letting us tell her how we wanted to operate and then she used her expertise to guide us along. We went out and sat in the car and talked in private after the meeting about the numbers. She has a knack for knowing when to leave someone alone so my wife and I could talk privately. Maybe it’s a woman thing. We had been offered a pretty good deal from the Olympia Chrysler guy but Landy said she would take our offer to her sales manager if we wanted to work with her. At this point my wife and I were actually pretty close but we did not want to make a commitment without letting some time pass and go talk away from the place of business. We told Landy that we needed to go away and that we were going to look at a different vehicle. This is the point where we got “harassed” by other dealers. She just shook our hand and told us that she was there to help us all she could and that she hoped we would come back with questions if we had them. She made us every polite effort she could but we told her we would not go further until we had a chance to take some time. And then we left. We drove to Tacoma to look at one more van and then we saw another one across the street. After checking out those two we decided that we would go back and talk to Landy as were pretty close to making our decision. In the meantime; she had spoken to her manager and he had a dealer trade from Oregon that had just been delivered to your dealership. When we came back she showed us that vehicle and she even pointed out that it had fresh bugs on the front! We agreed to take a test drive. After the drive we sat in a different car on the far end of the lot and ran over all the details of the week of car shopping and reviewed the notes we had taken. We both agreed that we were going to buy this car if Landy could make it work. We ended up buying the car from your dealership. You sales manager was great and your finance guy was great. But Landy takes the cake! I am not saying that for the rest of my life I will only buy cars from her but I can tell you that I will give her first (and last) shot when I am in the market again. Many car salesmen can learn from her example. Pushing people and making them feel like they can’t walk out the door is a sure way to make sure that a guy like me will never walk back in. I like to take my time. My wife and I are a team and we need time to discuss what we are doing before we make a move. High pressure doesn’t go well with that. Anyway, we are excited to start our relationship with your company. The free car washes was also a factor (the Kia guys also vacuum the car when they free wash it). It was also nice that your building was neat and your bathrooms were clean. This is a big deal to us. Thanks for working with us. And I think it is important when management knows that one of their employees is standing out in the crowd and doing excellent work. (Having an autographed poster by Richard Petty in your service department didn’t hurt you either!) Thank you for your time. ”
